Inside Our Pro-Package Inspection: How We Document Storm Damage on Your Property

June 2, 2026·Hail Shield Exteriors Team

Most roofing companies knock on your door after a storm, take a quick look at your roof from the ground, and hand you a pamphlet. That is not what we do. At Hail Shield Exteriors, our Pro-Package inspection is a forensic, documentation-grade assessment of your entire exterior — roof, siding, gutters, soft metals — backed by certified NOAA storm data tied to your exact GPS coordinates. Here's what happens, step by step, every time we inspect a property.

Step 1: Full Roof Inspection — Every Slope, Every Plane

Our inspector physically walks every accessible slope and inspects every plane of the roof surface. We are looking for the specific signs of hail damage: circular bruising on shingles where granules have been knocked off the asphalt base, fractured tab edges, cracked ridge caps, displaced pipe boot collars, and damaged vents. We measure hail hit density per roofing square — a 10×10 ft section — because density is the threshold metric insurance carriers use to authorize full replacement vs. repair. We also check for wind damage: lifted shingles, broken seal strips, and displaced valleys. Nothing is done from the ground.

Step 2: Full Siding Inspection

Hail doesn't just hit your roof. We walk the full perimeter of your home and inspect every exposed siding panel, window trim, corner posts, fascia boards, and J-channels for impact fractures, spider cracks, and perforation marks. Vinyl siding fractures under hail impact in a very specific way that differs from installation cracking or weathering — our inspectors know the difference and document it clearly. Every elevation is photographed for the insurance file.

Step 3: Full Gutters & Downspout Inspection

Your gutters are some of the most reliable evidence in a hail claim. Aluminum gutters display round, measurable impact dents from hail that cannot be mistaken for anything else. We inspect every gutter run, every downspout, every splash block, and every end cap. We also look inside the gutters for granule accumulation — the volume of granules washed off your shingles and deposited in your gutters confirms the severity of the impact event on your roof. If gutters are oversized, undersized, improperly pitched, or sagging away from the fascia, we document that too.

Step 4: We Mark Every Single Hail Hit

This is where we differ from every other contractor you'll talk to. Once we've identified hail hits on your shingles, we mark each one — individually — with chalk or a paint pen. We then measure and record the diameter of the hit, the depth of the bruising, and its exact location on the roof plane. The total hits per roofing square is calculated and compared against insurance eligibility thresholds. At the end of the inspection, your roof has a complete hit map. Insurance adjusters can count every single impact — there is no ambiguity and nothing to argue about.

Step 5: We Photograph Every Single Hit

Every marked hail hit gets photographed up close with a scale reference — a coin, a ruler, or a hail gauge — so that the size and depth of the impact is visually verifiable in the photo. We shoot close-up images of every hit, mid-range shots establishing density context per plane, and wide shots of each elevation for the full overview. A/C condenser fins, gutters, siding impacts, window trim, pipe boots, and ridge caps are all photographed in sequence with GPS metadata embedded. By the time we leave your property, we have a complete photographic record of every piece of damage.

Step 6: We Walk You Through Everything — In Person

Before we leave, we sit down with you and walk through every finding. We show you the actual photos on our device. We explain what each piece of damage means for your roof's remaining lifespan and why it qualifies for an insurance claim. We show you the hit marks on your gutters, the granule loss in your downspouts, the fractures on your siding. You are not getting a verbal summary — you are getting a firsthand look at your own property's storm damage. We answer every question before we leave. There is no high-pressure sales pitch.

Step 7: NOAA Storm Data Report — Your Property, Your Storm

We pull certified NOAA National Weather Service data for your exact GPS coordinates and compile it into a storm history report. This report shows every confirmed hail event, damaging wind event, and tornado warning that has passed over your specific property — with dates, hail sizes, wind speeds, and storm paths. This data is what ties your physical roof damage to a specific, verifiable weather event. Insurance adjusters cannot dispute certified NOAA data. Your Pro-Package includes this report and it is submitted directly with your claim file.

Our inspection is free, takes about 30 minutes, and ends with a full walkthrough of every finding — no surprises, no pressure, no obligation. You'll leave knowing exactly what storm damage is on your property and what your options are.
